Tonya, who is a freshman at Bellefontaine High School, was initially nervous about the transition from middle school to high school.
As a freshman, Tonya has not only made many new friends but has also been recognized for her artistic talents by painting the BHS logo on a couple of walls in the school.
Tonya’s schedule is busy both inside and outside of school. She is actively involved in the Teen RISE program where she participates in various activities.
Additionally, she participates in advocacy groups and trainings with Kelli Bader from the Logan County Board of DD, which have contributed significantly to her growing confidence.
Her mother shares that Tonya is thriving both at home and in school, becoming more independent and taking on additional responsibilities.
Her academic performance has improved, achieving all A’s and B’s, and she has become noticeably happier.
One of Tonya’s teachers, Mr. Ric Prine, stated “Tonya is a joy to have in my classroom at BHS. I was lucky enough to have met her when she was in my 6th-grade class in middle school. When Tonya was in 6th grade she displayed extraordinary talent in art. Now Tonya is in my room at the high school where she continues to excel in my transition unit and in the art room.”
Tonya has painted two Chieftain heads in the BHS building this year: one of them is in Mr. Prine’s room, and the second one is in Mr. Hogue’s room.
Tonya’s talents have not gone unnoticed in the building, and she has had numerous requests for her artwork in other rooms.
“It is very gratifying to see Tonya get so excited about the things she has done. It is also exciting to watch all of the attention and appreciation our staff around the building has given Tonya for her AMAZING talents!” Mr. Prine noted.
