The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has released additional information regarding the incident on Dolly Varden Road.
Following further investigation, authorities have identified the deceased as Scott Thuma, 60, of Springfield, Ohio.
Investigators determined the death was the result of a self-inflicted injury.
Deputies located a firearm at the scene during the investigation.
Officials stated there is no indication of foul play and no ongoing threat to the public.
The case is no longer considered a criminal investigation.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Authorities are investigating the death of an adult male who was found unresponsive in the roadway Tuesday afternoon in Urbana.
According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 12:27 p.m. on February 3 reporting an unresponsive male on Dolly Varden Road near State Route 54.
Deputies and EMS arrived within minutes and located the man outside of a vehicle. He was breathing but had suffered significant head trauma and blood loss. A black Kia Sorento was found parked nearby with no visible damage, and preliminary information at the scene indicated the incident did not appear to be the result of a motor vehicle crash.
Life-saving measures were initiated at the scene, and the man was transported to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Sheriff Chad M. Burroughs said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community based on information gathered thus far.
The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
