The DeGraff Village Council is up to full strength after Heidi Duckro was sworn in by Mayor Stephanie Orsborne. Ducko, a longtime resident of DeGraff, takes over the term that was created earlier this year and will expire on December 31, 2028. In other reports, Mayor Orsborne informed the council that Village Administrator Ken McAlexander is gathering insurance quotes for the village. So far, it appears likely that the costs will be going up, said Orsborne.
Police Chief Terry Brentlinger reported to the council that he recently completed the LEADS Audit that is required by the State of Ohio. He also asked the council to authorize the purchase of a new Taser package for $358.60. The expenditure was approved.
DeGraff Fire Department Chief Greg Beatty reported that his department had 52 runs last month, which included 36 fire calls and nine accidents. The department provided mutual aid on 20 occasions and received mutual aid on 18 calls. Also, the new 3-inch fire hose that had been ordered at the beginning of the year has been delivered. It will be placed in service as soon as possible.
In her report, Fiscal Officer Kassandra Staley reported that she applied for a grant to cover the cost of new radios for village departments, She hopes to hear something back by the end of the year.
