The DeGraff Council met in regular session Tuesday night and heard updates on several projects.

Zoning Officer Merle Orsborne reported that the Easton House property is scheduled to be torn down and cleaned up in the next two weeks.

In his report, Village Administrator Ken McAlexander reported that several projects are being worked on by village crews. He said that work on the water plant punch list, including deficiencies that were found after a recent inspection, is continuing. Once the work is completed, the county must come in and inspect the work, as does the County Engineer’s office.

McAlexander also told the council that the Neighborhood Improvement Grant work is continuing. The utilities on the affected properties have been buried and cleaned up. He also expects the resurfacing of the village park walking track to be completed this coming spring.

He did urge the council to take action on the front wall of the fire department building. McAlexander said that the structure near the rook line is beginning to bow outward, causing a large gap. He asked the council for permission to contact an inspector to evaluate the building and make recommendations for repair. He recommended closing the sidewalk in front of the fire station to prevent possible injury in case the wall gives way.

In her report, Fiscal Officer Kassandra Staley informed the council that a change has been proposed concerning the village’s document retention policy. It was recommended that moving forward, all village documents be saved in Google Docs, a computer hard drive, and a flash drive, each stored at a different location. Council members would be able to access the documents whenever needed. The proposal was accepted by the Finance Committee, according to Staley.

Regarding recent documents, she will be soliciting a quote to have the documents scanned and saved similarly.

Staley also recommended that the council accept the recent Indian Lake Fire Department’s mutual aid contract that they recently signed. The council agreed.

The next DeGraff Village Council meeting will be Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 7:00 PM.
