Friday, Kambriane Johnson, a DeGraff native and 2021 Riverside High School graduate, was among 56 recruits graduating from the Columbus Police Academy as part of the 149th Recruit Class.

After more than 30 weeks of intense training, the new officers are ready to begin their law enforcement careers.

Starting next week, they will receive station assignments and begin patrolling alongside veteran officers.

Johnson has always had a heart for service. She initially attended Ohio University with plans to become an elementary teacher, which brought her to Columbus.

Recently, she felt called to serve her community in a new way and decided to pivot, joining the police academy.

The Columbus Police Training Academy, located at 1000 North Hague Avenue, offers a rigorous 31-week, 1,200+ hour program blending academic, physical, and tactical training.

According to the academy, recruits complete courses in law, patrol operations, behavioral science, and defensive tactics, often using high-tech simulation tools like the MILO Range system, preparing them for real-world field service.
