A Bellefontaine driver was arrested for numerous driving violations after wrecking his vehicle Sunday afternoon around 3 o’clock.

Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office observed a Ford Mustang traveling in the left lane of Route 33, well over the posted speed limit of 70 MPH.

The vehicle was clocked traveling at 130 MPH.

Authorities turned on their overhead emergency lights and tried to catch up to the vehicle.

The Mustang initially slowed down significantly, but then increased its speed and took off down 33.

As deputies approached the State Route 347 exit, a witness pointed authorities to a grassy area between 33 and 347.

As the vehicle was fleeing, the driver failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the left side of the road into a ditch, striking a small sign and then hitting an embankment.

Authorities looked in the direction the witness was pointing and saw a male, later identified as Troy Meyers, 20, walking in the tall grass towards the road.

Meyers was immediately placed under arrest. He pleaded with authorities to check on his passengers.

Deputies checked on the other occupants. No one had any injuries. Two minors were transported to Memorial Hospital in Marysville by Perry Township EMS because a legal guardian was not present.

Meyers was taken to the Logan County Jail.

He told deputies he had no idea how fast he was going. He stated he never saw the marked patrol car until he looked in his rearview mirror and saw the emergency lights flashing.

Meyers stated, “I told myself I was already in trouble and something told me to go.”

When asked how fast he was going when he was fleeing, Meyers said the car tops out at 140 MPH and he was topped out.

He was extremely apologetic and admitted he made a dumb decision that put a lot of lives in danger.

Meyers was cited with speed, reckless operation, failure to comply, and failure to control.

The vehicle suffered minor damage.
