Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a hit-and-run crash that caused significant damage to Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home on Wednesday morning.
Deputies say they were called to the funeral home on US 68 shortly before 10:00 a.m. after staff reported damage to landscaping and the business sign.
According to the investigation, the vehicle involved appeared to have been attempting to turn around in the funeral home parking lot.
In the process, it drove over decorative rocks, struck a tree, and hit a large rectangular sign for the business.
The ruts left in the grass suggest the vehicle was a dual-tire truck.
Vehicle fluid was found on the parking lot surface, indicating the vehicle suffered significant damage from striking multiple objects.
The fluid trail suggested the vehicle fled the scene heading north toward Bellefontaine.
Efforts to identify the vehicle have been challenging.
The funeral home’s video surveillance was not functioning at the time of the crash.
Deputies were able to check with a neighbor to the north, who had a security camera facing the funeral home’s parking lot.
Video from the camera showed a white pickup truck in the lot around 8:50 a.m. It is unclear if this truck caused the damage, as the footage did not capture the vehicle striking any objects.
The truck was seen leaving the funeral home heading north toward Bellefontaine, with the sign visible in the background, though the video quality was too grainy to determine if it had been damaged.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
