Cold temperatures and snowy roads led to a few small acts of kindness from local Champaign County deputies this week.
Early on the morning of January 16, around 4:30 a.m., a deputy spotted a man walking along South U.S. Highway 68 near Hickory Grove Road. The man, identified as Joshua Willis, said he was walking to work at The Farmer’s Daughter. With the cold weather and dark conditions, the deputy offered him a ride. Willis accepted and was safely taken to work before the deputy returned to service.
The day before, on January 15 around 7 a.m., another deputy noticed a man walking in the snow near County Line Road. The man, Richard Huff, explained he was walking to his job despite the slick roads. Concerned about the conditions, the deputy offered him a ride to work. Huff accepted and was dropped off safely.
While these moments were brief, they show deputies looking out for people during tough winter weather. Sometimes helping the community is as simple as offering a warm ride when the cold makes an already long walk even harder.
