A 51-year-old Bellefontaine man is facing charges following a domestic incident involving a firearm early Monday morning.

Deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home just before 7:00 a.m. at a residence on County Road 26 after a teenage girl called 911.

The girl claimed that there was a heated argument between her parents and that a gun was involved.

The teen told dispatch she had made comments about harming herself during the argument, and that her father allegedly retrieved a loaded handgun and encouraged her to use it.

She then hid in her bedroom closet while calling for help.

When deputies arrived, they made contact with the family outside the home.

According to reports, the situation quickly became tense, with the teen accusing her father of handing her a gun and telling her to harm herself.

Deputies detained 51-year-old David Daum to de-escalate the situation and found a loaded 9mm handgun inside the home.

Investigators say Daum admitted to retrieving the firearm during the argument and making statements telling his daughter to harm herself.

Family members told deputies they were frightened by his actions, adding that he also threatened self-harm during the incident.

Daum was arrested and charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic violence.

Deputies also requested that prosecutors consider an additional charge of child endangerment due to the presence of a loaded firearm during the incident.

Daum was lodged in the Logan County Jail.

The case remains under investigation.
