Yesterday Governor Mike DeWine announced the reopening of Indian Lake State Park effective tomorrow (Friday, March 29th). This will allow all state-owned boat ramps to be reopened and individuals to return to recreational use of the State Park both on and off the water. Fox Island will remain temporarily closed due to extensive damage requiring ongoing recovery efforts.
Thanks to the Governor’s announcement and the substantial cleanup and recovery progress over the past two weeks, the community looks forward to welcoming visitors to the Indian Lake area for the eclipse weekend.
“We couldn’t be more proud of the response from the community in responding to this crisis. We are thrilled to see the State Park open and are eager to support the businesses in the Indian Lake area that have necessarily paused normal operations to help in recovery efforts,” said Ben Vollrath, Logan County Public Information Officer.
The impact of visitors for the eclipse weekend has long been anticipated by area businesses. “Though the road to restoration is extensive, the timely reopening for the eclipse serves as an important milestone for revitalizing local business and employment. Seeing the Indian Lake area start to bounce back so quickly is a beacon of hope for all of us. It’s not over, but this shows the hard work is making a positive impact,” said local business owner, Ray Bohac of Cranberry Resort restaurant.
For those who plan to visit Indian Lake during the eclipse, please be respectful of the ongoing cleanup and recovery efforts while enjoying the open businesses and activities around Indian Lake. Any road closures or off-limit areas that may arise due to recovery work will be publicized closer to the event weekend.
FEMA also concluded its Preliminary Damage Assessment of the impacted Indian Lake area today. This visit served to validate and verify damage reports on residential properties.
