On Tuesday afternoon, just after 4:00 PM, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence report at home on the 300 block of State Route 508 in West Liberty.

Dispatch reported that 24-year-old Benjamin Chamberlin was armed in the basement and had threatened to kill himself.

The caller also reported that Chamberlin had thrown a female to the ground, possibly causing injuries, and warned that if law enforcement approached with lights and sirens, he would harm people inside the home.

When they arrived on the scene, law enforcement was able to escort two people out of the home.

Just before 5:00 PM, Chamberlin exited the residence through the garage and complied with commands to raise his hands and drop to his knees.

He was secured at gunpoint and handcuffed.

A loaded 9mm handgun with a full 15-round magazine was recovered from his waistband.

Chamberlin was then transported to the Logan County Jail.

A victim was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for evaluation.

She reported that the incident began during an argument over the use of a vehicle.

Chamberlin allegedly grabbed her from behind, placing one arm around her neck and the other around her torso before slamming her to the ground.

After being read his rights, Chamberlin declined to answer questions from deputies without a lawyer present.

He was formally arrested and lodged on a single charge of domestic violence.
