Christmas “Elves” have been hard at work decking downtown Bellefontaine for the holidays.
Joanne Ritter and her group of friends — affectionately known as the downtown “elves” — have been caring for the city’s holiday décor for many years.
Despite brisk temperatures Tuesday morning, the group bundled up and put on the finishing touches to bring the festive look to life.
This year, business folks from downtown Bellefontaine also joined in, lending a hand as garlands were hung, lights were wrapped, and bows were fastened.
Billions of white lights, hundreds of feet of garland, and several dozen bright red bows now dress up Main Street, Court Avenue, and nearby blocks.
The result is a cheerful, photo-ready holiday scene that makes downtown a special place to shop, dine, and enjoy throughout the season.
The transformation brings a familiar charm that residents look forward to each year.
Volunteers say their work is a labor of love — one that brings joy not only to them but to everyone who visits Bellefontaine during the holidays.
Local businesses say the decorations help set the tone for the busy shopping season ahead.
The city’s holiday kicks off the Hometown Christmas Parade on Friday, December 5th.
From 4–6 PM, families can enjoy free activities throughout downtown, followed by the parade kicking off at 6 PM.
Last year, more than 60 floats lit up the streets—and organizers say they’re hoping for even more fun, festive, community-filled entries this year.
Those interested in joining the parade can sign up by Wednesday, November 19, at: https://forms.gle/Le9zgYrEcHyMS57DA
More festive displays will continue to appear throughout the next few weeks as Bellefontaine moves deeper into the holiday season.
