Several dozen residents gathered in downtown Urbana on Saturday morning to participate in a No Kings protest, part of a nationwide series of demonstrations taking place across the United States.
Participants assembled in the heart of the city to peacefully express their concerns about federal government policies.
The No Kings movement, now in its third major coordinated day of action, has drawn thousands of separate protests in cities and towns nationwide as part of a broader grassroots effort.
Local demonstrators carried signs and chanted slogans reflecting the movement’s central message — that power should remain with the people rather than being concentrated in the hands of a single leader or administration.
The crowd continued to grow as the morning moved on.
No reports of major disruptions or arrests were reported, and the Urbana Police Department was on hand to ensure the peaceful protest.
