An EMS call Friday evening ended with a man being cited for OVI and driving without a license.
Deputies were called around 5:25 p.m. to the intersection of County Road 5 South and County Road 29 for a man reportedly in need of medical attention.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with Artemio Saldana, 40, of East Liberty, and reported smelling alcoholic beverages on his breath and noticing that his speech was slurred.
Saldana initially told deputies he had not had anything to drink since Thursday night.
He later changed his statement, saying he drank a lager beer around 6:00 Friday morning and believed he stopped drinking around 6:30.
Saldana acknowledged that he had driven the vehicle before deputies arrived and was sitting in the driver’s seat when they and EMS reached the scene.
Mac-o-chee EMS evaluated Saldana, and he initially refused treatment.
He was then placed under arrest.
While in the patrol vehicle, Saldana requested medical attention again, and EMS returned to the scene.
Saldana was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital.
The report says he needed assistance from EMTs and a deputy to walk, so standard field sobriety tests were not performed.
At the hospital, Saldana refused sobriety testing.
The report also states Saldana has never held a U.S. or Ohio driver’s license.
He was cited for OVI, refusing a chemical test, and driving without a driver’s license.
