Early Monday morning Bellefontaine Police were called to a home on Gunntown Road after a car was reported stolen.

The victim told police their black 2016 Hyundai Elantra was last seen at the home the day before, around 2:00 PM, and no one else had permission to use it.

They told police they noticed the car was missing after receiving a notification that their AirPods had been disconnected from the car.

A short time later, police spotted the car driving on East Columbus Avenue.

When they tried to initiate a traffic stop, the driver sped off, turning off the headlights and trying to get away.

Police followed the car until the driver crashed into a fence on County Road 130.

The driver, later identified as 18-year-old Austin Sawvell, of Dayton, and a female passenger ran from the scene on foot.

They were caught after running through a field.

A medic crew treated the female suspect at the scene for injuries from the crash, and she was taken to the hospital.

Sawvell was arrested and taken to the Logan County Jail, where he was charged with stealing the car, leading officers on a chase, and driving with a suspended license.
