Driver cited for OVI after crashing into utility pole

A Urbana man is facing multiple charges after crashing into a utility pole late Monday night in Champaign County.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post responded around 11:23 p.m. on March 9 to a single-vehicle crash on Dolly Varden Road just west of the intersection with State Route 54 in Urbana.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2007 GMC Yukon driven by 24-year-old Spencer Stanley of Urbana was traveling west on Dolly Varden Road when the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Stanley was not injured in the crash.

Troopers determined Stanley was at fault and cited him for failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle. Authorities also determined he was impaired at the time of the crash and issued additional citations for Operating a Vehicle While Impaired (OVI) and OVI with a breath alcohol concentration of .17 or higher.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post.
