Driver crashes into Mad River after falling asleep

The West Liberty Police Department responded to a one-vehicle crash Sunday night on U.S. 68.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 68 and Township Road 175.

According to the report, Twyla Clark was driving a 2012 Honda Civic northbound when she veered left of center and traveled off the roadway.

The vehicle continued through the grass for more than 300 feet before entering the Mad River.

Clark told officers she had fallen asleep at the wheel.

She was checked at the scene for injuries and cleared by Mac-O-Chee EMS.

A citation for failure to control is pending.

The West Liberty Fire Department, Mac-O-Chee Joint Ambulance District, and Logan County Hazmat responded to the scene.

Hazmat crews assisted with fluid containment and removal.

Wren’s Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.
