Three individuals were cited Friday after a drug-related incident prompted a search in a rural area near DeGraff.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called just before 10:00 PM to the area of Township Road 45 after a man called 911 claiming his friends were trying to kill him.
The caller, later identified as Austin Morelock, 37, of Cincinnati, told dispatchers he had consumed mushrooms before hanging up.
Deputies arrived on scene and learned Morelock had left a nearby residence and run into a field.
His friends, identified as James Burchenal, 38, of Cincinnati, and Reed Seward, 39, of Cincinnati, told deputies they had all consumed a psychedelic chocolate bar before the incident.
Authorities began searching the area, including nearby fields, with assistance from additional deputies.
The Bellefontaine Police Department also responded with a drone to help locate Morelock.
After multiple attempts to reach him, dispatchers were able to make contact with Morelock, who later emerged from a wooded area and met with deputies.
He told officers he had also consumed psychedelic mushrooms and became fearful of his friends, but said he was feeling better at the time he was located.
Deputies confirmed that the entire chocolate bar had been consumed, and no product remained.
All three individuals were issued summonses for disorderly conduct and are scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court later this week.
