A Bellefontaine man was arrested early Saturday morning after police observed him driving erratically through the city.
According to a report from the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers on patrol shortly before 1:00 AM noticed a white GMC pickup truck weaving behind their cruiser on North Main Street.
The truck repeatedly drifted over the centerline and back into its lane.
Officers followed the truck as it turned onto several streets, including East Williams Avenue, North Madriver Street, and East Sandusky Avenue.
During that time, police reported the driver continued crossing lane lines, made wide turns into the opposite lane of traffic, and failed to properly signal before turning.
Police initiated a traffic stop after the truck turned south onto North Main Street.
The driver continued a short distance before pulling over on West Columbus Avenue, where the truck took up two parking spaces and hit a curb before stopping.
The driver was identified as 24-year-old Kyle Davis.
Police said Davis appeared confused, rolled down the wrong window at first, and struggled to find his driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Officers reported Davis had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, poor coordination, and a strong odor of alcoholic beverages.
When asked about drinking, Davis first said he had nothing to drink, then later admitted he had been drinking earlier but would not say how much.
Police asked Davis to perform field sobriety tests, which he refused.
He was then placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
At the police department, Davis refused to take a breath test.
Officers also discovered he has three prior OVI convictions and a previous “habitual alcoholic” suspension on his driving record.
Davis was issued a citation and later released to a sober driver.
