Earlier this week, Russells Point officers were dispatched to the area of Clermont Street and U.S. Route 33 following a report of several ducklings trapped in a storm sewer.
Upon arrival, officers met with Lisa Hicks, who explained that a mother duck had been struck and killed by a vehicle on U.S. 33.
In the confusion, her ducklings fell into a roadside catch basin.
In a coordinated response, Russells Point Police were joined by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) – Division of Wildlife, the Indian Joint Fire District, and Village of Russells Point personnel.
Together, the teams worked carefully to retrieve the five stranded ducklings from the storm drain.
Following the successful rescue, ODNR officials took custody of the ducklings and released them into a safe environment near a pair of mallards at Indian Lake.
