A West Liberty man was cited after a dump truck pulled down utility lines and snapped a utility pole in Bellefontaine Friday morning.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, just before noon, Raymond Levan, 82, was driving a 2015 Volvo V90 westbound on Wren Avenue after leaving a construction site when he failed to lower the vehicle’s dump bed.
Police say the raised bed caught overhead utility wires, pulling down lines and snapping a utility pole.
The incident also caused wires to be torn from several nearby homes.
Investigators reported that Levan continued driving west after the pole broke.
He later told officers he knew he had struck the wires after the pole snapped.
Levan initially left the scene but later returned after the owner of the company contacted him and informed him that police needed to speak with him.
Levan was cited for operating an unsafe vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
