A local man was arrested early Thursday morning after a traffic stop in Bellefontaine that led to the discovery of suspected cocaine.
According to Bellefontaine Police, officers saw a tan Buick being driven by David Taggart, 36, of Bellefontaine, shortly after midnight near the intersection of West Sandusky Avenue and North Elm Street.
Officers say they knew Taggart did not have a valid driver’s license, and the vehicle registration was improper and listed as fictitious.
When officers activated their emergency lights to pull over the vehicle, it briefly drove over a curb into a backyard near Taggart’s residence.
Deputies then made contact with Taggart, who explained he was returning from picking up the car after it supposedly overheated.
A K9 unit was called to assist, and the Pyro alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.
A search revealed a small amount of white powder consistent with cocaine, located in the passenger-side dashboard, along with rolling papers.
Taggart admitted ownership of the rolling papers.
He was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he faces one count of possession of drugs.
This is his second drug arrest in just a few weeks.
