Two men from West Liberty were arrested early Tuesday morning after police responded to a suspicious persons call at the Speedway gas station on East Sandusky Avenue in Bellefontaine.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, the call came in around 3:25 a.m. on June 24th.

When officers arrived, they found a blue Honda Civic parked outside with its dome light on, but no one inside.

Store employees told officers that two men had been lingering inside the store and trying to buy alcohol.

The individuals were identified as Roblero Garcia, 29,  and Morales Ramirez, 23, both of West Liberty.

Officers confirmed they had arrived in the Civic, which is registered to a company based in Columbus.

Inside the car, officers saw several empty bottles of beer in plain view.

Both men eventually admitted they had been drinking in the vehicle and said they each had six beers.

Garcia also admitted to drinking before driving to the gas station.

Police noted that both men showed several signs of intoxication.

A search of the vehicle turned up more empty beer bottles and a stainless-steel jug with some beer left in it.

Garcia refused field sobriety tests but agreed to a breathalyzer, which showed a blood alcohol level of 0.118% — nearly two times the legal limit.

He was charged with:

  • OVI (Operating a Vehicle While Impaired)
  • OVI – BAC over 0.08
  • No Operator’s License
  • Open Container in a Vehicle

Garcia was taken to the Logan County Jail.

Ramirez was also arrested for:

  • Disorderly Conduct by Intoxication
  • Open Container in a Vehicle

He was taken to jail as well, since he was intoxicated and had no way to get home safely.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a hold on both individuals and is expected to take custody in the coming days.
