Families in Logan County will have a chance to celebrate Easter with a unique, hands-on experience at Piatt Castle Mac-A-Cheek.
The historic site will host a free community Easter event on Saturday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m., offering a mix of traditional egg hunt fun and interactive historical activities for all ages.
Unlike a typical egg hunt, participants will both hide and search for eggs, creating a shared experience for families and community members. Organizers say there is no need to bring a basket, as all attendees will leave with a bag of Easter treats.
The event will highlight historical Easter customs with both outdoor and indoor activities.
Outside, visitors can take part in an Easter egg roll inspired by the tradition first held on the White House lawn during the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes, an Ohio native.
Additional games will reflect German and Irish traditions featured in 1880s editions of the “American Girls and Boys Handy Books.”
Inside the castle, children can create Easter cards based on 19th-century designs and color images from the Piatt family collection.
Guests can also explore an exhibit showcasing Easter cards from the 19th and 20th centuries, while sharing their own family traditions and learning about springtime celebrations from the Piatt family’s history.
Organizers note that in the event of rain, outdoor activities will be moved under tents or indoors to ensure the event continues as planned.
The Mac-A-Cheek Foundation sponsors the program for the Humanities with support from the Mary Eleanor Morris Fund of the Columbus Foundation and AM250-Ohio.
The event also marks the opening weekend for tours at Piatt Castle Mac-A-Cheek, which will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning April 4.
Daily hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will begin May 23 and continue through the summer, with weekend hours resuming after Labor Day.
Admissions from tours help support the foundation’s educational programming at the historic site.
