Eight students to represent ILHS at Buckeye Girls State

Eight young ladies from Indian Lake High School will gain valuable experience in the operation of government and make friends for a lifetime at Buckeye Girls State this summer.

The event runs June 8-15 at Bowling Green State University.

The following were selected to represent Indian Lake High School at the 2025 Buckeye Girls’ State held on the Bowling Green campus:

  • Augusta Biederman, daughter of Gus and Holly Biederman of DeGraff
  • Olivia Hurley, daughter of Matt and Billi Hurley of Huntsville
  • Mara Bihn, daughter of Shawn and Amy Bihn of DeGraff
  • Rylynn Matthews, daughter of Chad and Julie Matthews of Bellefontaine
  • Lili Mackesy, daughter of Phil and Jessica Mackesy of Huntsville
  • Riley Shaner, daughter of John and Nikki Shaner of Lewistown
  • Riley Ross, daughter of Chad and Jamie Ross of Huntsville
  • Evie Wagner, daughter of Kyle and Kelly Wagner of Lewistown

The Buckeye Girls State program is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary of Ohio.

Locally, it’s sponsored by the Huntsville Indian Lake Lions Club and the Charles Collins Ladies Auxiliary Post #381.

Participants must meet several qualifications.

Candidates must be juniors in high school, interested in government and current events, and have an above-average scholastic standing.

The young women must also demonstrate high moral character, possess strong leadership skills, and have a desire for learning.

The purpose of Buckeye Girls State is to educate young women from Ohio in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of good citizenship.
