Bellefontaine Police responded to a dog bite incident on Tuesday evening that left an elderly woman seriously injured.
Officers were called to a home on the 600 block of Florence Avenue around 5 p.m. after a report that two pit bulls had attacked the woman.
When police arrived, members of the Bellefontaine Fire Department were already providing aid.
The victim suffered severe injuries to her face and arms and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
Police spoke with the dogs’ owner, Deanna Legge, 66, of Bellefontaine, who said she was trying to bring her dogs inside from their outdoor kennels when they ran off.
A witness told officers he heard the woman screaming and helped get the dogs back into their kennels.
Legge was cited for dogs at large and was advised of her mandatory court appearance.
A dangerous dog report was completed, and the incident has been forwarded to the Logan County Health Department for review.
