All ages are invited to Piatt Castle Mac-A-Cheek on Sunday, at 4:00 PM, to celebrate the beauty of autumn and the excitement of Halloween.

This free, 90-minute outdoor program will feature various activities, including traditional Autumn Games and Halloween Customs.

Participants can make toys from natural materials, bob for apples on a string, and explore fun facts about corn through a giant interactive quilted corn display.

A bean bag toss game inspired by James Whitcomb Riley’s 1916 poem about corn will also be featured.

Costumes are encouraged, allowing attendees to share their own Halloween traditions. Storytelling will highlight the evolution of American customs, focusing on the works of renowned author Ray Bradbury.

Ensemble readers will perform a chilling excerpt from Bradbury’s novel Dandelion Wine and recount Halloween celebrations of the 1930s based on his article in Reader’s Digest, titled “Tricks! Treats! Gangway!”

The event will conclude with a community bonfire and Trick or Treat, weather permitting.

This event marks the final 2024 gathering sponsored by the Mac-A-Cheek Foundation for the Humanities, a nonprofit organization.

It is made possible thanks to generous support from the Mary Eleanor Morris Fund of the Columbus Foundation, Piatt Castle Mac-A-Cheek, series sponsor Jeffrey Glebocki, and supporting sponsor Tony St. Clair.

Additionally, October 27 is the last day for facilitated and self-guided tours of Mac-A-Cheek Castle, available from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Piatt Castle Mac-A-Cheek is located at 10051 Township Road 47, West Liberty, OH 43357.
