The Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle injury crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of US Route 36 at South State Route 235, in Johnson Township.
Sheriff’s Deputies, along with members of the Johnson/St. Paris Joint Fire District were immediately dispatched to the scene and discovered a 2018 Silverado, driven by Angelberto Albe Cano Valencia, 38, of Leesburg, was stopped in the northbound lane of travel for a red stop light at the intersection. A 2018 Equinox, driven by Thomas Moody, 53, of Urbana, was northbound on S. State Routh 235 and failed to stop, subsequently striking the rear of the Silverado.
Moody, Angela Elsass, a rear passenger from the Equinox, and Angelberto Albe Cano Valencia were all transported to Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital for their injuries. Pamela Moody, 74, who was also a passenger in the Equinox was transported to Springfield Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.
