A tragic two-vehicle crash on Saturday has left one person dead and two others injured.
The incident happened just after 11 AM on North State Route 560 at Church Road in Concord Township.
The Champaign County 911 Center received calls reporting the collision, prompting a quick response from local law enforcement and emergency services.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the Multi-County Joint Crash Investigation Team, and several fire and EMS units responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, deputies found a tan 2006 Chevrolet truck, which was being driven southbound, had collided head-on with a northbound 2005 GMC truck operated by 21-year-old Wade Cook from Urbana.
Cook’s passenger, also 21 and from Urbana, was identified as Bryce Zumwalt.
The force of the collision caused both vehicles to spin off the road and into a nearby field. The GMC truck ended up on its side, trapping the men.
Fire and EMS crews worked to remove them from the wreckage, and both were flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight helicopters.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Garrett A. McGinnis Jr., 20, of Urbana, was pronounced dead at the scene.
