The following is a press release from the United Way.

United Way of Clark, Champaign, and Madison Counties announced father-daughter duo Phil Teusink and Ally Thurman will lead the way as the 2026 Clark County United Way campaign co-chairs.

Together, Teusink and Thurman share not only a family bond but also a deep commitment to giving back to the Springfield community. Representing generations of dedication, they bring both experience and passion to their roles, continuing a family legacy of supporting programs that help neighbors thrive.

Teusink, a lifelong Springfield resident, retired after 50 years in the local banking industry. He’s supported United Way since 1971 and has been directly involved for more than 20 years, including serving as Clark County campaign chair in 2000.

“United Way supports so many agencies, some of which may not have the capacity to go out and ask for support on their own,” said Teusink. “It also gives individuals an easy way to make a difference. That’s why it’s so important to me.”

Thurman, Teusink’s eldest daughter, has spent the last 15 years working in educational administration, helping schools and students thrive. Born and raised in Springfield like her father, she feels a deep connection to her hometown and a strong desire to give back to the place that helped shape who she is today. Thurman has been involved with United Way of Clark County for 10 years through volunteering, attending events and supporting campaigns, and she currently serves on the Board of Directors.

“I want to help bring people together for a common purpose,” Thurman said. “Leading the campaign gives me the opportunity to rally colleagues and friends around something bigger than ourselves and to know that our efforts directly benefit local families and programs in need. That sense of purpose is incredibly motivating.”

Natalie Driscoll, interim executive director of United Way of Clark, Champaign, and Madison Counties, praised Teusink and Thurman for their exceptional dedication to the community.

“We are thrilled to have Phil and Ally leading our 2026 Clark County campaign,” said Driscoll. “Their longstanding commitment to our community and passion for bringing people together make them the perfect leaders to inspire generosity and support for the programs that truly make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.”

In addition to supporting longstanding programs, United Way of Clark, Champaign, and Madison Counties is launching Thrive in Five, a new initiative focused on early brain development and kindergarten readiness. A significant portion of funds raised during this year’s campaign will support local organizations and agencies helping children thrive during these critical early years.

“Investing in the earliest years of a child’s life is one of the most impactful ways we can strengthen our community,” said Driscoll. “Through Thrive in Five, we are committed to giving local children the foundation they need to succeed in school and beyond, which ultimately builds healthier communities and a stronger future for everyone.”

As Clark County campaign co-chairs, Teusink and Thurman will lead a dedicated group of volunteers on the campaign cabinet, aiming to raise $1 million. This leadership group will offer strategic guidance and collaborate closely with the United Way team to passionately promote the impact of United Way and its partner agencies.

“I’m always proud of how our community comes together and exceeds expectations,” Thurman said. “Watching individuals step up through donations, volunteering or simply spreading the word. It’s inspiring. Looking ahead, I will be most proud if we can get the majority of Clark County schools actively involved in this year’s campaign. Having our schools engaged not only strengthens the effort but also teaches the next generation the importance of giving back.”

Teusink also shared his encouragement for others to get involved.

“Why not? It’s a great way to help make a difference in our community. There are so many ways to be involved, and anyone is welcome to join this effort.”

Each year, hundreds of organizations and individuals invest in the community through the United Way campaign. Funds raised in Clark County remain within the county, providing essential support to more than 30 local nonprofit programs. The annual campaign also funds Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, 2-1-1 Information and Referral Services, and Volunteers United. The 2026 Clark County United Way campaign officially kicked off on Sept. 2 at the annual United Way Golf Outing.
