Fatigued driver smashes fence

A Sidney man went off the road and damaged a fence Tuesday on County Road 43.

The driver, 22-year-old Abbott Reineke, was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla when he reportedly slid on snow and left the roadway.

Deputies on the scene noticed that the road only had light snow in the middle of each lane and determined that road conditions were not a contributing factor.

Fatigue may have played a role, as Reineke had just completed a 12-hour overnight shift.

The vehicle left the roadway on the south side, crossed a driveway, passed between a utility pole and a mailbox, and gouged the yard.

It then drove up a small hill, went through a pasture fence, and came to rest after striking the fence a second time.

Wrecker crews had to cut the fence to remove the vehicle and tow it away.

Reineke was issued a citation for failure to control his vehicle.
