Judge Kevin P. Braig of the Logan County Court of Common Pleas Tuesday sentenced Jacob Ferguson, 31, of Huntsville to 30 years to life in prison.
Previously, a Logan County jury found Ferguson guilty of ten counts of rape, felonies of the first degree.
If Ferguson is ever released from prison by the Ohio Parole Board, he will be subject to five years of post-release supervision by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority.
Logan County Assistant Prosecutor Sarah Warren represented the State of Ohio at the sentencing hearing and recommended the prison sentence imposed by Judge Braig. Defense counsel John Cunningham of Dayton, Ohio represented the defendant. Ferguson addressed the Court and continued to maintain his innocence. He stated at the hearing that he intends to file an appeal.
Ferguson was convicted in early May 2023. The offenses happened for almost a year before the victim reported the crimes. The victim was 9 years old at the time of the offenses.
In March of 2022, Ferguson confessed to Sheriff’s Detectives. He initially entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, but was found competent to stand trial. The jury viewed a video of his confession. However, during the trial, Ferguson took the stand in his own defense and denied committing the offenses.
