27-year-old Robert Harrington II and 30-year-old Garrett Levering were arrested Tuesday morning after police found the two men involved in a physical fight in Bellefontaine.
According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, an officer was traveling south on South Main Street near Auburn Avenue around 3:50 a.m. when he saw Harrington standing over Levering, who was on the ground.
The officer reported seeing Harrington throw several punches at Levering.
Officers separated the two men and began investigating.
Levering told police he had been sitting at a bench near the intersection for most of the night when Harrington approached him about comments allegedly made to Harrington’s mother.
Harrington told police his mother had reported that a man at the bench made sexual comments toward her while she was walking home from Speedway.
Harrington said he went to the area to confront Levering and told officers he was questioning Levering when Levering stood up and assaulted him.
Harrington said he then fought back.
Police noted fresh injuries on both men and photographed their injuries.
A witness told officers he saw both men fighting but did not see who started the altercation.
Both men told police they were on probation.
Their probation officers requested that they be held on probation violations.
Harrington and Levering were both arrested and lodged in the Logan County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and probation violations.
