UPDATE: Fire destroys welding shop on U.S. 68

Multiple fire units responded to a structure fire at a welding shop along U.S. 68 North near Rushsylvania around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire and medical personnel arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames.

Officials reported that propane tanks were located on the property, creating additional safety concerns for emergency crews.

Several explosions were reported as welding equipment and gases were stored inside the structure.

The roadway was shut down in the area of the 8000 block of U.S. 68 as crews worked to contain the fire and secure the scene.

  • Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department
  • Bellefontaine Fire Department
  • Ridgeway Fire Department
  • Kenton Fire Department
  • BMRT EMS
  • Huntsville EMS

The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.

Fire crews remained on site for several hours and were on the scene until approximately 2 a.m. Thursday morning.

The structure is considered a total loss, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
