A passerby initially thought a bonfire was burning outside a home in the 3600 block of Logan Road Tuesday evening — until a closer look revealed the house itself was on fire.
The neighbor immediately checked for anyone inside and called 911.
Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department arrived just before 7:00 p.m. to find the home fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly went to work and were assisted by crews from the Bellefontaine Fire Department and the Indian Joint Fire District.
Several pets were inside the home at the time.
Sadly, only one dog was rescued.
No human injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The home, which is considered a total loss, is listed under the ownership of Sandy Gehrlich, according to the Logan County Auditor’s website.
