Saturday morning, Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported firearm theft in Rushsylvania.

A victim reported his gun had been stolen and told authorities that he last saw the firearm, a .22 caliber Magnum Research rifle with a shot suppressor and a scope, lying on a workbench in his garage.

He suspected Kayte Clary, 24, of Newark, had taken the weapon and he believed the gun would likely be found in her vehicle.

Deputies then went to Clary’s workplace, and when questioned, she initially suggested the rifle might be at a friend’s taxidermy shop.

When authorities requested to search her vehicle, Clary agreed.

As the search began, she became emotional and revealed that she had found the firearm in the trunk of her car earlier that morning but had not reported it to authorities.

Clary admitted to handling the gun but claimed she didn’t know how it ended up in her trunk.

Officers found the rifle in plain view in the trunk.

Clary was placed under arrest for theft of a firearm and was transported to the Logan County Jail where she was charged with theft of a firearm.
