UPDATE: Firefighters respond to fire in Champaign County

Firefighters from West Liberty and surrounding departments rescued several pets from a house fire early Saturday morning at 3008 Lippincott Road.

West Liberty Fire Chief Darin Leach said crews were dispatched around midnight to find the residence fully engulfed in flames.

One person was inside the home when the fire broke out, but was able to escape safely thanks to a passerby who stopped and alerted them.

Firefighters successfully retrieved eight dogs and three cats from the burning structure.

No human injuries were reported.

The fire destroyed the attached garage and part of the home.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Mutual aid was provided by departments from Urbana, St. Paris, and Rosewood.

Macochee Joint Ambulance District also assisted at the scene.

Just after midnight, emergency crews were dispatched to the 3000 block of Lippincott Road, outside of Urbana, after reports of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters worked to contain the blaze as quickly as possible.

A dispatcher confirmed that all occupants were able to safely exit the home.

No injuries have been reported.

Emergency crews were able to save three family pets.
