Firefighters respond to structure fire on Gwynne Street in Urbana

Firefighters from the Urbana Fire Division and West Liberty Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon in Urbana.

Urbana crews were dispatched around 3:31 p.m. Thursday, October 8, to the 400 block of Gwynne Street.

Firefighters arrived about three minutes later and reported smoke coming from the rear of the structure.

Crews discovered an exterior fire that had extended into the attic and began an interior fire attack.

Water was on the fire by 3:38 p.m., and the fire was declared under control around 3:44 p.m.

West Liberty Fire Department provided mutual aid, while the Urbana Police Division and Champaign County Dispatch also assisted with the response.

No injuries were reported.

A damage assessment is underway, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
