A Bellefontaine Police Department K9 is being credited with helping detectives take dangerous drugs and a loaded handgun off the streets.

On Thursday, K9 Pyro joined detectives on a traffic stop, where he was deployed for a vehicle sniff.

Pyro alerted to the presence of a narcotic odor, giving officers probable cause to search the vehicle.

During the search, detectives recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, cocaine, and a bulk amount of fentanyl.

The police department highlighted Pyro’s contribution with a photo of the hardworking K9 giving a celebratory fist bump after the operation.

Officials say more details on the stop are expected to be released soon.
