Mark Fleming of Lakeview was lodged in the Logan County Jail Saturday night for Improperly Handling Firearms in a Vehicle after he was in an auto accident.
Logan County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Buckeye at the Lake, Saturday after a caller stated that Fleming had left the restaurant drunk.
While en route, authorities observed Fleming traveling Northbound on State Route 235 Near RV Wholesalers.
Fleming went left of center, almost striking deputies. He then drove down a steep embankment, struck a culvert, went airborne, and hit two RV trailers.
When officers approached Fleming’s truck, they shifted it into park, shut it off, and he was on the floorboard gripping the steering wheel.
Officers observed the odor of alcohol on Flemming and noticed many signs of impairment. When asked how much he had to drink he said that he had just a little bit.
When officials asked Fleming if he had any weapons he responded that he did in his pocket.
He was handcuffed and searched for the weapon. When deputies could not locate it, they asked again where it was. Fleming said it must be in the truck.
Deputies found a Smith & Wesson 9 MM located on the passenger side floorboard. The magazine loaded with 7 rounds, and there was an 8th round in the chamber.
Also on the floorboard, a cooler with a 6 pack of beer was located, with one full beer remaining.
The Indian Lake EMS responded to the scene to evaluate Fleming. He had no major apparent injuries. His minor wounds were cleaned and bandaged.
Fleming was transported to the Logan County Jail.
Additional charges of OVI, Driving Upon the Left Side of the Roadway, Failure to Control and Seat Belt are pending.
