The Second Harvest Food Bank held a Summer Pantry Food Distribution at Bellefountaine High School on Saturday.
From 10 a.m to 1 p.m local families came together and were served healthy, nutritious meals.
Second Harvest Food Bank serves families in Champaign, Logan, and Clark counties.
According to Feeding America, Second Harvest Food Bank provides over 3 million meals to hungry families.
The Summer Pantry Food Distribution is focused on providing breakfast and lunch to families whose kids miss out on free meals during the summer while not in school.
Early in the High School parking lot, volunteers and employees alike gathered with over $50,000 worth of food.
The efficient crew made quick work of the growing crowd as families moved through the line.
Alex Jackson, Executive Director of Second Harvest, spoke on how personal his work is for him.“We believe that everyone deserves to eat.”
The level of enthusiasm that this team brings to the initiative is contagious, and it can be felt through the teamwork that this group brings.
While talking with Jackson, he repeatedly stated, “I just love feeding people.”
The next Summer Pantry Food Donation will be next month, somewhere in the Champaign County area.
