UPDATE: 9-8-26 9:30 AM
A Bellefontaine-area traffic stop turned into a high-speed pursuit Saturday night, ending with the suspect being arrested after he was found in a pond near County Road 10.
According to a Logan County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were traveling near Main Street and U.S. 33 around 8:15 p.m. when they noticed a white Lexus with extremely dark window tint and no illuminated taillights.
The deputy followed the Lexus onto eastbound U.S. 33 and observed it traveling at a high rate of speed.
Radar showed the Lexus traveling at 98 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the Lexus fled eastbound on U.S. 33.
During the pursuit, law enforcement reached speeds of approximately 130 miles per hour.
The Lexus exited at County Road 10 but failed to negotiate the ramp, spun out, and hit a guardrail.
The driver then got out of the vehicle and ran into a nearby wooded area.
Additional personnel from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Bellefontaine Police Department, and Ohio State Highway Patrol responded.
K-9s Tega and Pyro assisted with the search.
K-9 Tega tracked the suspect through the woods toward a pond near a County Road 10 residence.
During the search, dispatch received a 911 call from the area of the pond.
Officers and deputies went to the area and found a male matching the suspect’s description in the water.
The man identified himself as the person who had fled and was taken into custody without incident.
He was identified as 19-year-old Rowan Scott, of Mechanicsburg.
Scott had been submerged in the pond and was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for medical evaluation.
He was later released and taken to the Logan County Jail.
Scott was lodged on a felony charge of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.
During an inventory search of the Lexus, deputies reportedly found an open bottle of Hennessy whiskey and an AR-style rifle in the trunk.
The report states Scott acknowledged knowing the rifle was in the vehicle but said it did not belong to him.
The Lexus was towed from the scene.
The case is being forwarded to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office for review and consideration of additional charges.
