According to court records, former Bellefontaine Police Sergeant Bradley Staley is scheduled to be arraigned in Logan County Court after being charged in connection with an on-duty incident involving alcohol and firearms.

Staley faces two charges: one count of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs (OVI), a first-degree misdemeanor.

The arraignment is set for Wednesday, June 4th, at 10:30 a.m. before Judge Kevin Braig.

The hearing is classified as a Bill of Information, meaning the case will proceed without a grand jury indictment.

The incident began on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

Logan County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Bellefontaine Police Department after concerns that Staley, who was on duty at the time, was under the influence of alcohol.

A breath test would show Staley had a blood alcohol level of 0.116, above the legal limit of 0.08.

At the time of the incident, Staley was carrying two firearms, and a third was found in his patrol vehicle.

It was also reported that while leaving the department in his cruiser, he struck a curb.

Following the incident, Staley was placed on administrative leave.

The department began disciplinary proceedings in accordance with internal policy, but Staley resigned before the process was completed.

Staley had served with the Bellefontaine Police Department for 10 years.
