As of Tuesday, Ohio Hi-Point Career Center announced that all students will receive free lunches for the remainder of the 2024/2025 school year.
This initiative ensures that students can enjoy balanced meals at no cost, addressing concerns about food access and nutrition.
The free lunch program covers a variety of meal options available at the school’s cafeteria. Students can choose from:
– A sandwich from the Sandwich Bar, accompanied by a vegetable, fruit, and milk.
– A Grab and Go Salad or Sub, including milk.
– A Plate Lunch from the Hot Bar, which includes an entrée, vegetable, fruit, and milk.
– A meal from the Build Your Own Lunch Bar, consisting of an entrée, vegetable, fruit, and milk.
However, ala carte items such as soda, chips, or desserts like cookies are not included in the free meal offer and will incur additional charges. Breakfast is also not covered under this program and is priced at $2.00 per meal.
Dr. Rick Smith, Superintendent of Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, highlighted the significance of this initiative. “Adequate nutrition is vital to the growth, education, and well-being of all students,” Smith said. “All households have felt the strain of the economy and increasing costs on nearly everything needed to live. We are happy to be able to provide this relief to all families and make sure all students have access to a healthy meal.”
While the free lunch program automatically benefits all students, the school encourages families who qualify to continue participating in the federal free and reduced lunch program by completing the necessary application. This participation helps the school secure additional funding and support for its food programs.
