As winter weather approaches, Logan County residents are reminded to stay informed about road conditions and safety measures. Sheriff Randy Dodds may declare different levels of roadway alerts, ranging from advisories to full emergencies, depending on snow, ice, and other hazardous conditions.
Here’s what each snow emergency level means:
Level 1 – Roadway Advisory: Roads are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow and may be icy. Drivers should exercise caution.
Level 2 – Roadway Warning: Roads are extremely hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only travel if absolutely necessary, and check with your employer about reporting to work.
Level 3 – Roadway Emergency: All roads are closed to non-emergency traffic. Travel is strictly limited to essential trips, and anyone driving in violation may face arrest. Employees should contact employers before traveling.
To help residents better understand these levels and how to stay safe, Sheriff Dodds and Bellefontaine Police Chief Chris Marlow joined Peak of Ohio News Director April King on Listen Up Sunday morning to discuss winter weather levels, driving tips, and how the county responds to snowy and icy conditions.
Sheriff Dodds emphasized that residents should always plan ahead, limit travel when conditions are severe, and follow the guidance of law enforcement to keep everyone safe during winter storms.
