A 44-year-old man was arrested Thursday after deputies investigating a hit-and-run crash said they found his damaged truck and evidence connecting him to the scene.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to a home on County Road 48 around 1:30 Thursday afternoon after a resident reported hearing what sounded like a crash.
When the residents went outside, they found a “Stop Sign Ahead” warning sign knocked down in their yard.
Deputies also found tire tracks and debris indicating a vehicle had left the roadway and struck the sign.
Among the debris was a vehicle part identified as a front fog-light opening cover used on 2015 through 2020 Chevrolet Colorado pickups.
Deputies also found a DeWalt grinder with the initials “RTC” engraved on it.
A leads search led investigators to Roman T. Comer, of Rushsylvania, who owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado.
Deputies went to his home and found the truck with front-end damage consistent with the crash.
They also reported seeing several open alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle.
They said Comer had an odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech.
During the investigation, Comer admitted the grinder belonged to him.
He initially denied hitting the sign, saying he had struck a mailbox instead.
Investigators also found tools in the truck with initials matching those on the grinder found at the crash scene.
Comer was arrested and charged with hit-skip and failure to control.
