From fires to emergencies: 2025 kept Bellefontaine busy

The Bellefontaine Fire Department handled a total of 3,078 calls for service in 2025, according to the department’s annual report.

Of those calls, 503 were fire-related, while the majority—2,575—were for emergency medical services (EMS). In addition, the department conducted 465 inspections throughout the year.

On average, the fire department responded to 8.4 calls per day, with 114 days seeing 10 or more calls.

January 14th was the busiest day of the year, with 20 calls for service.

The report also highlights the overnight demand for services: 33% of all calls occurred between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m..

Staffing levels averaged 5.2 personnel per day, with firefighters working an average of 21.9 overtime hours daily to meet the community’s needs.

Over the course of the year, the department recorded 8,011 total overtime hours.

Despite their efforts, the department faced challenges.

There were 400 instances where no crew was available for an additional call, 352 calls requiring multiple fire apparatus, and 390 occasions where more than one call occurred simultaneously.

Reflecting on the year, Bellefontaine Fire Chief Brian Wilson said,

“2025 was a record year for us. We exceeded the 3,000 runs/ year mark. This was also the first time that we had two personnel in the fire prevention office, allowing us to conduct over 460 fire safety inspections. Out of those inspections, 391 fire code violations were identified and corrected.”

With a team of 24 staff members, the Bellefontaine Fire Department continues to provide critical fire and medical services, ensuring the safety of residents around the clock.
