As the new year approaches, dog owners are reminded to renew their dog tags for 2025, with the proceeds from these sales going toward a worthy cause: the construction of a new Animal Shelter, scheduled to be built in 2025.
According to Ohio Revised Code 955.10, dog tags are a mandatory requirement, and the funds collected will help support the ongoing efforts to create a modern facility for local animals in need.
The new shelter, once completed, will provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for pets awaiting adoption, and the money raised through dog tag sales will play a crucial role in bringing this much-needed resource to the community.
Why Getting a Dog Tag Matters:
- If a dog is found with its tag, the owner can avoid the hassle and cost of the kennel, as the pet can be returned directly to them.
- Dogs with tags that are brought to the kennel for the first time will incur no extra fees, acknowledging that situations can arise unexpectedly.
- However, if a dog is not tagged, the owner will be required to pay a $20 fee for the tag, a $20 kennel fee, and a potential fine of approximately $150 for failure to confine.
It’s clear that tagging pets is not only an affordable choice but also a step toward supporting the future of the local animal community.

**A note from Logan County Auditor Jack Reser: Dear Dog Owner, It is up to you to keep your dog healthy, happy, and safe. Take your dog to a veterinarian. Protect your pet from deadly contagious diseases by simple inoculations and regular checkups. Consider spaying and neutering to prevent the tragedy of unwanted puppies and to protect your pet from health problems. Give your dog regular exercise. A daily brisk walk on a leash can prevent many behavioral problems like chewing, barking, and digging. Help your dog burn up calories and energy in a healthy way. Feed your dog a balanced diet of good food and fresh water. Your dog can’t just go fix a snack. You are his chef and server. License your dog. Not only is it the law, but a Logan County license automatically registers your dog for a trip home if he gets lost. Remember, call 937-599-7209 if you find a lost dog. Sincerely, Jack Reser**
