Bellefontaine police arrested a man for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI) after a traffic stop following a reported incident at a local gas station on Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to the Speedway after a customer was seen stumbling and appearing intoxicated while purchasing beer and then getting into a red Ford truck.

Officers found the vehicle in the parking lot and attempted to make contact, but the driver, later identified as 42-year-old Gilbert Speck of Carrollton, Georgia, drove out of the lot heading north on South Main Street.

Police activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop downtown.

During the interaction, officers noticed Speck showed several signs of impairment.

Speck admitted to consuming two beers and refused field sobriety testing.

At that time, he was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail for a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .262, more than three times the legal limit.

A search of the vehicle turned up three open containers of beer.

Speck faces charges for operating a vehicle under the influence and possession of open alcohol containers in a vehicle.
