Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has ordered that state flags be lowered in honor of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was fatally shot during an event in Utah.

According to a release from the governor’s office, both the Ohio and United States flags will be flown at half-staff on all public buildings and grounds across the state until 6:00 PM September 14th.

Kirk, 31, the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed Wednesday while speaking at his “Prove Me Wrong” event at Utah Valley University.

The program is known for hosting live debates with students on controversial topics.

His death sparked outrage nationwide, with some leaders describing the shooting as a political assassination.

Several Ohio lawmakers issued statements condemning the violence and offering prayers for Kirk’s family.

In addition, DeWine announced that flags will also be lowered statewide on September 11 in remembrance of the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Flags will fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.
